Running down from the castle entrance is the partially pedestrianised Peascod Street – most shops, pubs and eating places are on or near this street.THE CASTLE.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD.

THE GARTER CEREMONY.
The Order of the Garter, founded by Edward III in 1348, is the most senior and oldest British Order of Chivalry. The splendid ceremony takes place at Windsor Castle in June every year.
The highlight is the procession on foot to St George’s Chapel lead by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, preceded by a fanfare of trumpets and flanked by a dismounted squadron of the Household Cavalry. The procession takes place within the grounds of the Castle which are closed to the general public on the day of the ceremony. However, we are usually able to obtain a limited number of free tickets that enable our guests to be within a few feet of the procession - The next Garter Ceremony is on the 15th June 2009. ROYAL WINDSOR WHEEL.
Maidenhead’s answer to the London Eye offers “a full 360 degree panoramic view 60 metres above Alexandra Gardens” from July to October. Doubtful value at £6.50 per person. Visit royalwindsorwheel.co.uk for details.
THE RIVER.

FROGMORE.
Adjoining Windsor Castle are two Royal Parks – the Home Park and the Great Park. Within the grounds of the Home Park stands the splendid Frogmore House that has been used as a country house by various monarchs since the seventeenth century. The Home Park is private, but Frogmore is open to the public for three days over late May or early June and for another three days over the late August Bank Holiday – recommended.
