WINDSOR GREAT PARK
Originally part of a vast hunting forest for Saxon Kings, the Great Park is about 5,000 acres of countryside stretching from Windsor Castle in the north to Ascot in the south. Wildlife abounds in a landscape that includes sweeping deer lawns, woods, coverts and ancient oaks. This unique heritage, a thousand years in the making, is now visited by over two million people a year. A large part of the park is open to the public free of charge and at the Windsor end of the park there are ample free carparks along the A332. Roads within the park serve historic buildings and a village – cycling is allowed on most of these roads, but the general public may not bring motor vehicles into the park.Located in the southern part of the park are the following landscaped areas:
- The Savill Garden: One Britain’s greatest ornamental gardens, visit theroyallandscape.co.uk/landscape/savillgarden.
- Virgina Water: Varied and exotic woodland around a manmade lake, visit theroyallandscape.co.uk/landscape/viginiawater.
